CONCEPTS

Behavior is based on beliefs.
Behavior and beliefs should be consistent.
Belief systems are subject to change.
People can experience how others think, feel and value.
People develop personal beliefs and disbeliefs.

 
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

Students will identify principles that they value and compare those with the valued principles of other students.

 
MATERIALS

Paper, pencils. 

 
TIME

20 - 30 minutes.

 
INSTRUCTIONS

For this exercise, it is important for the teacher to be a neutral facilitator and recorder, allowing the class to discuss the rank ordering.

Before beginning, the teacher should lead a discussion of WHAT "principles" are, to be sure students understand the concept.

LESSON CAPSULE

Draw a hand. Label the fingers on the hand to represent five principles that you are prepared to stand by. Compare your hand with others in the class. List the principles on the board. Rank order them by class vote, if you wish.
